The Ladies Powder Puff Fishing Tournament is one of Port Aransas’ most beloved fishing traditions, celebrating women in the sport of bay fishing while supporting the youth of the island community. What began as a friendly competition among local anglers in 1982 has grown into a premier annual fishing event that continues to honor its rich waterfront heritage.

Originally launched at Woody’s Boat Basin by a group of local fishing enthusiasts, the tournament was created to give women a chance to showcase their fishing skills in a fun and competitive environment. Over the decades, the event evolved from an individual competition into a team tournament and remains a cherished part of Port Aransas fishing culture.

Today, the Ladies Powder Puff Fishing Tournament operates as a nonprofit organization with a mission to support the youth of Port Aransas. Anglers from across the Texas coast gather each year to compete in both Amateur and Pro-Am divisions while enjoying camaraderie, friendly competition, and a shared passion for fishing.

Teams of up to four anglers will target Speckled Trout, Redfish, Black Drum, Flounder, and Hardhead Catfish in pursuit of tournament honors and prize opportunities. The event also features a popular Redfish Spot Pot competition for the fish with the most spots.

Whether you’re an experienced angler or participating for the first time, the Ladies Powder Puff Fishing Tournament offers an exciting opportunity to enjoy the waters of Port Aransas while supporting a great cause and continuing a local tradition that has thrived for more than four decades.
