Activity 1: Bird Watching at Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center

Nature lovers won’t want to miss the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center. Walk the boardwalk through the wetlands while keeping an eye out for roseate spoonbills, herons, egrets, ducks, pelicans, and dozens of migratory birds. The center is free to visit and open daily from sunrise to sunset.


Activity 2: Explore Charlie’s Pasture

Continue your adventure at Port Aransas Nature Preserve at Charlie’s Pasture.

Walk the scenic boardwalks and trails through coastal prairie, tidal flats, and marshes while enjoying some of the best birding on the Texas coast. The preserve offers incredible wildlife viewing and peaceful places to slow down and enjoy nature together.


Time for Lunch!

After a morning outdoors, enjoy lunch on a patio and continue soaking up the coastal atmosphere.

Afternoon Adventure

Keep exploring the island’s natural beauty.

  • Joan & Scott Holt Paradise Pond for another excellent birding stop.
  • The Patton Center for Marine Science Education to learn about local marine ecosystems. Open to the public Tuesday – Saturday.
  • The beach for shell collecting and beachcombing.
  • The South Jetty to watch dolphins, pelicans, and ships pass through the channel.


Sunset

End your day with a quiet walk on the beach or find a peaceful spot overlooking the marshes as the sun sets.

Bring a blanket, listen to the waves, and watch shorebirds settle in for the evening. Sometimes the simplest moments become the most memorable.
