  • Tarpon Inn is a historic hotel established in 1886, it holds the distinction of being one of the oldest continuously operating hotels on the Texas Gulf Coast. Be sure to visit its lobby and discover its rich history and the collection of tarpon scales. These scales adorning the walls create a unique display paying homage to the area’s deep-sea fishing heritage. You can even find Franklin Roosevelts signed tarpon scale.

  • Find that perfect outfit at from one of our many boutiques like Bojon’s, Hazel Grace, Island Woman Boutique and Ragdoll.
  • Even the men can get down with some shopping at places like Palm Republic, The Dock and shop inside Fisherman’s Wharf.

6. Science Center/Nature Tours:

Embrace the island’s natural beauty indoors by visiting the UT Marine Science Institute, ย Texas Sealife Center or the Texas State Aquarium.ย 

  • The UT Marine Science Institute is aย free and educational facility. Not just for kids, you are sure to learn a few things about marine life and habitats. Home of the ARK (Amos Rehabilitation Keep) where you can reserve a guided turtle tour.ย  These indoor programs often continue rain or shine and provide insights into the diverse wildlife that calls this area home.
  • Texas Sealife Centerย  is a quick 20 minute drive to Padre Island. it is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of coastal and aquatic wildlife. You can see rescued turtle waiting for release in the large aquatic tanks. It is free to entire but be sure to make a donate while your are there.

  • Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi is where you can discover the amazing under water world with exhibits showcasing Gulf Coast habitats and creatures. Sharks, dolphins, turtles, jellyfish, flamingos and more. You can even touch and feed a stingray!
